Covid-19 Research Led by Ph.D. Student Binbin Lin is Accepted by IJDE

A Covid-19 research led by Gear Lab member Ms. Binbin Lin, a first-year Ph.D. student, is recently accepted by the International Journal of Digital Earth! Congratulations!

The manuscript is entitled "Revealing the Linguistic and Geographical Disparities of Public Awareness to Covid-19 Outbreak through Social Media," This study analyzed the global Twitter data from January 1st to June 30th, 2020, seeking to answer two research questions. What are the linguistic and geographical disparities of public awareness in the Covid-19 outbreak period reflected on social media? Does significant association exist between the changing pandemic awareness and the Covid-19 outbreak? Through Twitter data mining and statistical analysis, this research found significant and disparate lag effects between public awareness and the Covid-19 outbreaks in different countries. The result yields timely insights into social media use in understanding human behaviors for public health research.

A preprint version of the manuscript is available on: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2111.03446.pdf.
