Debayan Mandal's Experiences in AGU 2023

The experience in AGU 2023 has been exhilarating. Learning from several researchers in multiple fields, across multiple countries and the different research approaches still has him buzzing. The sense of camaraderie and shared purpose in advancing our field was palpable and energizing. He does love coming back to this at the year-end to exchange ideas and meet friends from all around. He was awarded the Research And Presentation (RAP) travel award by the Graduate and Professional School, Texas A&M University to support this endeavor.

The highlights of his time at AGU'23 were the opportunity to present disaster resilience research in various formats. Delivering oral, poster, and lightning presentations throughout the conference was undoubtedly exhausting, but the feedback, questions, and shared enthusiasm from the community made every moment worthwhile.

He expressed sincere thanks to his advisor, Dr. Lei Zou, for directing him in this research and guiding the nuances of its presentation. That has undoubtedly raised the quality of his talks. Alongside, it was rewarding to listen to the named sessions (notably, Witherspoon, Bolin), invited talks (Dr. Heng Cai), and presentations of some of his friends - Rakibul Ahasan and Rohan Singh Wilkho. These interactions have left him inspired to implement a similar outlook toward his research.

Alongside that, meeting up with his senior, Dr. Abhinav Wadhwa, and the IGUIDE cohort - Parin, Andrew, Elaina, and Sukanya was a fun memory for him. Finally, he expresses thanks to Rohan Singh Wilkho for accompanying him throughout the proceedings and attending several interesting sessions together.

We look forward to hearing more achievements from GEAR Lab! Gig'em!
