We are proud to announce that Dr. Lei Zou has been selected as a National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Gulf Research Program Early Career Research Fellow. He will be joining the Human Health and Community Resilience Track.
This prestigious fellowship supports emerging scientific leaders as they take on risks and pursue nontraditional research that advances science at the intersection of human health, environmental resources, and offshore energy safety.

With the support of this fellowship, Dr. Zou will focus on developing innovative, data-driven Geospatial AI (GeoAI) approaches to help coastal communities better prepare for future disasters. The project aims to enhance both short-term response and long-term human health outcomes in vulnerable coastal regions.

Dr. Zou will be mentored by Dr. Shannon Van Zandt, whose guidance on career planning and development has been instrumental.
"I am excited for the opportunities ahead to collaborate, learn, and serve our communities in new ways," said Dr. Zou. The lab extends its gratitude to the NASEM Gulf Research Program, as well as the colleagues, collaborators, and students at the Texas A&M College of Arts & Sciences for their continued support.
