GEAR Lab Members Appointed to AAG Specialty Group Leadership Roles

GEAR Lab is pleased to congratulate Yifan Yang and Zongrong (Jasper) Li on their recent leadership appointments within the American Association of Geographers (AAG) Specialty Groups.

Yifan Yang will serve as Student Co-Director of the Remote Sensing Specialty Group, American Association of Geographers, from 2025 to 2027, and Student Co-Director of the Hazards, Risks, and Disasters Specialty Group, American Association of Geographers, from 2025 to 2027. These appointments reflect his active involvement in remote sensing, hazards research, GIScience, and interdisciplinary geographic scholarship.

Zongrong (Jasper) Li will serve on the Board of Directors of the AAG Applied Geography Specialty Group from 2026 to 2029 and the AAG CyberInfrastructure Specialty Group from 2026 to 2027. His appointments highlight his contributions to applied geography, cyberinfrastructure, spatial data science, and computational approaches to geographic research.

These leadership roles demonstrate GEAR Lab members’ growing engagement with national and international academic communities. Through service to AAG Specialty Groups, Yifan and Jasper will contribute to student engagement, conference programming, scholarly exchange, and the broader development of geography and GIScience.
