Joynal Abedin Received the TAMU Department of Geography Excellence in Research Award

We are delighted to share that Joynal Abedin, a Ph.D. candidate in the GEAR Lab, has been awarded the 2025 Excellence in Research Award from the Texas A&M Department of Geography. This highly competitive and prestigious honor is presented annually to one graduate student for excellence in research and another for excellence in teaching.

Joynal’s recognition this year marks a special milestone: he is the first graduate student in the department’s history to receive both awards, having also earned the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2023. His achievement reflects an exceptional balance of scholarly excellence, innovation, and dedication to both research and education.

This is also the third time a GEAR Lab member has received this honor, following Dr. Binbin Lin (2022) and Bing Zhou (2024).

Congratulations, Joynal, on this remarkable accomplishment and for continuing to raise the bar for excellence in the Department of Geography!
