Ph.D. Student Bing Zhou gives Presentation in Texas Sea Grant Workshop in Weslaco

Gear Lab member, Bing Zhou, was invited by the Texas Sea Grant as one of the representatives from University to present on resources, research and tools created by programs to support communities when understanding their risk, applying for grants, communicating risk to their constituents and thinking of alternative solutions to issues of flooding and water quality. The workshop was held in Weslaco, TX on May 12th.

The topic of the presentation is "Improving Disaster Management with Social Media and AI", in which Bing demonstrated the huge potential of incorporating Artificial Intelligence and Social Media data in disaster management by means of identifying rescue requests, and detecting topics discussed in fine granularity.
